Nominations for 2015–16 Executive Board

Nominations for the Los Compadres Executive Board for 2015-2016

Listed below are the current nominations for the 15–16 Board. All positions are open for further nominations.

PTO Board elections will be held on Monday May 11. No one is running for the following positions (and we really really need to get them filled!), so if you are interested in one of these (org chart and detailed job descriptions can be found here), we would love to hear from you (contact Becky at blznbec@hotmail.com).

  • Secretary
  • VP of Community Events
  • VP of Communications
  • VP of Campus Improvement

Please note that Board positions are leadership positions. Board members are NOT expected to do all of the work within their position. Their job is to coordinate with their supporting team to ensure the work gets done. These positions require 2 meetings a month which are in the evenings (one board meeting and one general meeting), and then coordination with supporting team members (email, phone, etc.).  Most of the 2014-15 board members also work full-time jobs and are not on campus all the time, so please don’t let that deter you from running if that is your situation.

President

Job Description Coming Soon

Leah KirbyLeahkirbyAll positions open for further nominations. My husband Robert and I have two daughters – Stella will be in second grade and Teagan will start Kindergarten at Longfellow in the 2015-2016 school year. In addition to the Spanish immersion program, my husband and I were drawn to Longfellow by its warm, active parent community and by the programs and events that really make our school special. In my day job working for a healthcare IT company, I serve as a liaison between our software development team and the clinicians at our client sites, leading innovation projects and ensuring client feedback gets incorporated into our products. I enjoyed serving as Los Compadres’ PTO President during the 2014-15 school year, and would be proud to continue building upon our PTO’s accomplishments next year.

I have a son in 3rd grade and a daughter in 1st grade this year at Longfellow. I have learned over the past three school years how the community and PTO helps and supports our principal and teachers. I feel that I could contribute support by running for VP of Development and continuing to improve the fundraising efforts and streamlining our budget and fund request planning. I am a high school Math teacher at El Camino High School, in Oceanside, and live a life dedicated to children everyday. I have the utmost respect for all parents and employees in education and share the common goal of doing whatever is best for our students.

I’m looking forward to serving as the VP of Educational Enrichment.  This is a great opportunity to add to the unique educational experience at Longfellow!  I have two children at Longfellow; a daughter in sixth grade and a son in second grade.  We lived in Barcelona for four years prior to my children starting at Longfellow – it has been a great way to reinforce the language they learned in Spain.  My professional background is in food science and I continue to have a strong interest in food and how what we eat affects our lives.  I enjoy helping with Art Corps lessons in my children’s classrooms and co-chairing the book fair.  I also teach kickboxing classes and have fun studying taekwondo with my children.

I have a daughter in 3rd Grade and I am truly grateful J-Love was selected to Longfellow. It was important to have J-Love speak Spanish and experience the traditions that Norma and I experienced as children. For the last 3 years, it has been awesome to be surrounded by a community of teachers, parents and children who make Longfellow more special. I accomplished 20 years of Governmental Accounting while in the Marine Corps, completed my undergraduate work is in Accounting through University of Phoenix, and I am 75% complete towards an MBA in Accounting. I have been volunteering as an AYSO Coach for the past 17 years and I’m committed to keeping the best interest in our future generations. As Treasurer, I plan to continue to stay active and continue the Longfellow successes.
